This performance fuses the work of five musicians, for the most part multi-instrumentalists, with five “performers” (dancers, acrobats…), who take their inspirations from the atmospheres of city life to deconstruct and recreate urban microcosms and their codes. Taking turns, they exploit the interactions and situations we live in everyday life.

Poetry, dynamism, aggression, melancholy…

CONVULSIONS : rock I danse I accomplice I bystander?

Who can escape the frenetic society we live in? Can you? Convulsions is a contemporary dance and rock music project based on views about the cities.

The aim of this piece is to evolve with each adaptation to the new spaces it will be performed in.

“Convulsions” was first performed in a converted rail station, the “Recyclart” in Brussels. The music incorporates salsa and gypsy elements into its pop-rock sensibility.

A choreographed musical piece and cross-over show between two art forms, CONVULSIONS integrates the musical performance at the centre of its choreography, literally and figuratively.

Initiated and created by Joël Grignard (bassist and composer of the Brussels-based rock band Monsoon) in collaboration with choreographer and dancer Céline Perroud (“Ultima Vez”, “DV8”), this project proposes itself as a mirror of our daily life. Mimesis, contamination, repetition: When moving in masses, people have the unconscious tendency to calculate their gestures to others, as when they take elevators, pack themselves into subways or make their slow progress in traffic jams. Nevertheless, this does not automatically eradicate their individualities. Certain strong personalities will always stand out here and there. The people surrounding us always have an influence on our behaviour, whether they are aggressive, repetitive, parasite, pleasant or deafening. In the course of six scenes, six atmospheres, Convulsions exploits these phenomena by using the audience as part of the show, implicating it and throwing it off guard according to its needs.

So, will you be an accomplice or a bystander?
